The CEE region is home to some of the Europe's most complex clinical centres. Here we took a closer look at the largest ones of them, by bed number.

1. Clinical Centre of Serbia, Belgrade, Serbia

With 3,150 beds, clinical centre in Belgrade, Serbia, is the hospital with the highest bed count in Serbia, Balkans, CEE but also the whole Europe. It has recently undergone an extensive rennovation worth €260 million. It contains 41 organisational units, of which 23 are clinics, 9 centers, polyclinic and other service units. The complex also houses the Belgrade School of Medicine and the Medical High School. Clinical Centre spreads over 34 hectares and it consists of about 50 buildings, with a total floor space of 280,000 square meters.

2. Motol University Hospital, Prague, Czech Republic

The largest hospital complex in Czech Republic has more than 2,400 beds. Motol is one of the largest hospitals in the whole Europe with over 860,000 patients treated a year as out-patients and 70,000 as in-patients. The hospital employs almost 5,000 staff.

3. Ljubljana University Medical Centre, Ljubljana, Slovenia

The largest Slovenian hospital with more than 2,100 beds. In 2018, the centre boasted the first successful simultaneous lung (both lungs at the same time) transplantation.

4. Vienna General Hospital (AKH), Vienna, Austria

With over 1,740 beds, AKH is the largest Austrian hospital, an important teaching centre and an important regional health hub. It has been operating since 1693 and serves over 1.5 million outpatients and 100,000 in-patients each year.
